Ways to motivate yourself August 9, 2015
Some tasks can be a bit annoying, to say the least and there are even entire days that seem to be full of things you don’t want to do in the first place. But how can you deal with feeling demotivated? I want to share with you some ways to motivate yourself when all you want to do is throw in the towel.
Finding the goal
Probably the best advice I can give you is to think about the purpose behind the work or task that you are dealing with. Goals work great for your motivation because we need to see the importance of a task and the bigger context of something to truly feel motivated to do it. Maybe it is only a step towards a goal or a sub-task to something else you need or want to accomplish? Putting it into perspective can make all the difference.
Visualize the outcome
Try to imagine how good you will feel once that dreaded task is finished. No matter how you feel about something unpleasant you have to do, it is also really annoying to having to think about it remaining on your to-do list. Also think about the inconveniences it can cause you or that it will be one more thing you have to do on the next day.
Set a timer
Time restrictions that you put on a task can make the process less overwhelming. If you work on something at least for a limited amount of time you will get going with your work and spend some time on the task. Try to aim for at least twenty to thirty minutes and after the time is up, chances are you overcame your inner road block and can continue to finish what you started. Because usually it is the starting part of a task we struggle with the most.
If nothing seems to work
Even though it is hard, sometimes you just have to deal with it. I know that some people say to just try again tomorrow when you feel more motivated, but chances are that you won’t feel miraculously motivated to do certain things. And the longer you wait, the harder it might get. Just do it already! At least start and stick with it for twenty minutes. It is not that long, after all.
Why do you want to be more motivated?
You chose to read this article because you want to be more motivated. So think about your reasons for that. If you focus on why you want to be more driven to do something you are half way there already to become more motivated. I do not believe that a reward system works unless you work on finding your inner motivation. Do some soul searching and really focus on your inner drive. You want to be more motivated to get more stuff done but the thing is that you are already half way there once you make that decision. So act the part!
Finding more inspiration
As already mentioned, you need to work on your drive and get inspired to be more motivated. It is really important to focus on a positive attitude to accomplish that. So set yourself some goals and find inspiration to tackle your tasks. There are so many sources of inspiration that can help you become more positive. You can look for inspirational and motivational quotes and videos online, read articles and books on the subject and just keep your eyes open for inspiration. Another way is to look for a role model among your friends and talk to them about motivation. Try to motivate yourself!
Remember that you can find something interesting or rewarding in nearly any task you are dealing with. It is up to you to see the positive side of things and getting into the right mindset to tackle any task that comes your way.
